I have a concern

At Longthorpe Primary Academy we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of all our children and expect all volunteers to share this commitment. For further information please read our Safeguarding & Child Protection Statement.

Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. This safeguarding statement applies to all staff, governors, volunteers, and other adults working in, or on behalf of, our school. It is an over-arching directive that pulls together all our safeguarding policies and procedures, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be found on the policies page.

All school staff undertake annual child protection training, and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. We know how important it is to listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputies (DSL/DDSL). Where concerns about a child require us to seek advice or support from other agencies, parents/carers will usually be informed and consulted first, in line with our Safeguarding Policy. However, where the nature or seriousness of a concern means that informing parents/carers could place a child at further risk or compromise enquiries, we may need to consult the relevant agencies before contacting them.

For Safeguarding policies, please visit our policies page.

Safeguarding concerns must be shared without delay with a designated safeguarding member of staff.  If a designated person is not available, in an emergency or if you are not happy with the schools action advice from the police or Children’s Social Care must be sought.

  • If you have suspicions or concerns for a child’s welfare you should always report this to the appropriate service such as the Police or Children’s social care.
  • If you feel uncomfortable in doing so, please remember that children have a right to be safe.
  • While concerns about safeguarding may sometimes prove unfounded, it is always better to report them. Raising a concern in good faith, even if it later transpires that no safeguarding issue exists, is the appropriate course of action..
  • Reporting concerns can cause people anxiety but please remember we are doing the right thing to protect our children and get support if they need it.
